The Bulletin of Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education is published four times a year, on 21st February, 24th April, 15th August, and 24th November. A bilingual in English and French, the Bulletin publishes writings of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother — including articles on Yoga, philosophy, physical education etc. — and largely unpublished correspondences between Sri Aurobindo and his disciples as well as correspondence between the Mother and the disciples. A quarterly report of the cultural and physical education activities of the Ashram along with photographs pertaining to these activities is included in each issue.
The Bulletin was started from February 1949. On the Mother’s request Sri Aurobindo wrote a series of eight essays which was featured in 1949 and 1950. These, the last of Sri Aurobindo’s prose writings and one of his valuable gifts to humanity, were later compiled into a book, The Supramental Manifestation Upon Earth.
The cover page of the journal has a special significance:
The flag that is shown on the cover of our Bulletin represents the symbol of a full-blown golden lotus with two rows of petals, four inside and twelve outside, at the exact centre of a silver-blue square. This blue is the blue of the spirit and the gold is the colour of the Supreme Mother. The “red” of the cover surrounding the flag signifies the illumined physical consciousness. This flag was originally chosen as the flag of the J.S.A.S.A. (Jeunesse Sportive de l’Ashram de Sri Aurobindo.); but later, when we celebrated India’s Independence Day (15 August 1947), we found that it also expressed the spiritual mission of the whole of India. So for us it is the symbolic flag of a resurgent, united and victorious India rising above the torpor of the centuries, having cast off the shackles of enslavement and undergone all the pangs of a new birth to emerge once more as a great and united nation and lead the world and humanity towards the highest ideal of the spirit. We therefore consider ourselves very fortunate to have a flag with such a symbol and we cherish it deeply. (April 1949)
Valid from February to November of each year
